Land Rover . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a Ford Taurus

Ford Taurus engines made after 1999 have two different fuel options: a regular gasoline engine or a flexible fuel engine. In a Ford Taurus with a gasoline engine, the spark plugs need to be replaced every 100,000 miles. Flexible fuel engines run on both gasoline and another bio-fuel, and need new spark plugs every 30,000 miles.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
5/8 or 16mm spark plug socket
Socket wrench and extension
Canned air
Anti-seize compound
New spark plugs
Tension tester tool

Step by Step :
1
Turn the engine off and remove the negative battery cable. Let the car cool for 30 minutes to 1 hour so that it's safe to remove the spark plugs.
2
Locate the spark plugs on the sides, front, back or top of the engine, depending on year model and number of cylinders. If the engine has four cylinders, the spark plugs run along the front of the engine. If the engine has six cylinders, the spark plugs are located along the sides in models make before 1999. After 1999 the Taurus was manufactured using two different engine styles each year. The spark plugs on these models are either across the top or along the sides of the engine.
3
Grasp the spark plug wire by the cover on top of the spark plug that is commonly referred to as the "boot." Twist the boot to the right and then to the left and pull back.
4
Slide the spark plug socket over the spark plug and turn it to the left with the wrench to release the spark plug from the well.
5
Clean the well with the canned air. Spray the air into the well in various directions to remove any debris.
6
Apply a layer of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plug and add one drop to the inside of the wire boot. Anti-seize compound is available at any auto parts store.
7
Gently thread the new spark plug into the well. If there is any resistance before the spark plug is completely threaded, unscrew the spark plug and begin again. Forcing the spark plug into place will damage more than just the spark plug. Test the tension to make sure it matches the required foot pounds listed on the plug's packaging.
8
Connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug. Continue this process for the rest of the spark plugs and then reconnect the negative battery cable when you complete the job.

Land Rover . How to Replace Spark Plugs in a GMC Sierra

The GMC Sierra is available in 1500 and 2500 models. The spark plug replacement process on both of these GMC Sierra models is the same. GMC suggests that all spark plugs be replaced every 100,000 miles. When removing spark plugs, always remove one spark plug wire at a time to avoid mixing up the wires.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Spark plug socket
Socket wrench with extension
Silicone spray
New spark plugs
Tension testing tool

Step by Step :
1
Disconnect the negative battery cable and allow the engine to cool.
2
Find the spark plugs on the vehicle that are located on the sides of the engine. Some of the GMC Sierra engines have a rubber flap covering the sides. Remove the flap to gain access to the spark plugs.
3
Take the spark plug wire by the boot and turn it to release the lock. Pull back on the spark plug wire by the boot. This removes the wire from the spark plug revealing the spark plug.
4
Cover the spark plug with the socket. Use the extension and the socket wrench to unscrew the spark plug. Pull the spark plug out of the cylinder head.
5
Spray silicone onto the threads of the spark plug and insert the new spark plug into the socket. Use the socket and wrench to thread the new spark plug in place. Gently turn the spark plug to the right to start the threading process. Never force the spark plug into the bore.
6
Connect the spark plug cable to the end of the spark plug and remove the next spark plug cable. Repeat the above process for the rest of the spark plugs.
7
Connect the battery cable and replace the rubber flap, if removed in Step 2.

that you get everything back in the proper order and direction. The following steps tell you how: 1. As you did with the drums, saturate the dirt on the brake backing plate with brake parts cleaner; then wipe it off with a clean, grease-free rag and throw the rag away. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings 2 ff 1 Don't blow the dust around — it can contain asbestos and cause serious lung damage. If you'd rather not deal with it at all, just leave the grime alone. 2. Wipe the dirt off the spindle and replace the wheel hub and brake drum on the spindle. If you have a floating drum, skip Steps 4 through 8 and slide the drum back over the lug nut studs until it contacts the hub. Be gentle so that you don't unseat the grease seal. 3. If you haven't already cleaned the inside of the drum, spray it with brake cleaner and wipe it out with a grease-free rag; then wrap the rag in a plastic bag and dispose of it immediately. 4. Replace the outer wheel bearing (smaller end first) and the washer. Don't let any dirt get on these! 846 Car Insurance cadillac escalade 2009 184199

5. Replace the adjusting nut by screwing it on firmly and then backing it off half a turn and retightening it "finger tight." ^ ^—-^ Another way to complete this step is to back the adjusting nut off one full notch (60 degrees) and, if the notch doesn't line up with the hole in the spindle, back it off just enough until it does. Then spin the wheel by hand to be sure that it turns freely. If it doesn't, loosen the nut a bit more. 6. Insert the cotter pin into the hole in the castellated nut. The cotter pin should clear the outer grooves and go all the way through. Refer to your sketch, if you made one, to make sure that it's pointing in the right direction. 7. Bend the legs of the cotter pin back across the surface of the nut to hold it in place. 8. Replace the grease cap. 9. Follow the instructions in Chapter 1 to replace your wheel, lug nuts, and hubcap and lower the vehicle to the ground. Checking disc brakes Today, most vehicles have four-wheel disc brakes. Others have disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels.

Before you check your brakes, go to an auto supply store or to the parts department of your dealership and ask to see a set of brake pads for your vehicle's make, model, and year. Measure the thickness of the linings on the pads so that you'll be able to tell whether the linings on your brakes are badly worn when you check them. To check disc brakes, use Figure 18-10 for guidance and follow these steps: Calipers nT-gife Disc y* \m

2. Look at the rotor, but don't attempt to remove it from the vehicle. The brake caliper has to be removed before you can remove a disc brake rotor, and there's no need to do so. If you're working alone, just check the visible part of the rotor for heavy rust, scoring, and uneven wear. Rust generally does no damage unless the vehicle has been standing idle for a long time and the rust has really built up. If your rotor is badly scored or worn unevenly, have a professional determine whether it can be reground or it needs to be replaced. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings !? C 2 3. Inspect your brake caliper (the component blocking your view of the entire disc brake rotor). Be careful. If the vehicle has been driven recently, the caliper will be hot. If it's cool to the touch, grasp it and gently shake it to make sure that it isn't loosely mounted and its mounting hardware isn't worn. 4. Peek through the dust shield on the caliper and look at the brake pads inside. If the linings on the brake pads look much thinner than the new ones you saw, they probably have to be replaced. If the linings have worn to the metal pads, the disc probably has to be reground as well. 5. Follow the instructions in Chapter 1 to replace your wheel, lug nuts, and hubcap and lower the vehicle to the ground. If the rotor and pads seem to be in good condition and your brake pedal doesn't flutter when you step on it, there's nothing else you need to do. Relining, caliper maintenance, and disc grinding should be left to a professional unless you do the job under supervision at an auto class. Go to a brake specialist (use the Yellow Pages or ask a friendly mechanic to steer you to one) rather than to the corner garage for this kind of work. Call a couple of shops and ask for estimates. Choose neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. Chapter 22 is devoted to finding a good service facility and dealing with them successfully.
